Smiles aplenty at YWP WI birthday meeting

Remember to keep smiling it makes people wonder what you are thinking.

YELLOWWOOD Park Women’s Institute’s (YWP WI) 47th birthday party with the theme ‘smiley faces’ was opened by president Vanessa Wilesmith.

She welcomed all guests especially the executive member Maureen Lavis and read out apologies.

Thoughts are with Dot Montochio who is not well at the moment. Each guest was given a smiley face key ring from one of the WI members so everyone had a smiley face.

The Mary Stewart Collect was read and then ‘smiley’ verses read. A few raffles were drawn, many thanks to members who gave the raffles, and then long service awards were given. A 45-year award was handed to member Wendy Henderson for all her hard work over the years.

Birthday wishes were extended to all members celebrating this month and then Wendy Henderson cut YWP WI’s birthday cake.

On with the party, there was lots to eat. Hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream were the order of the day. Then it was time for the prize giving handed out by executive member to members who continually enter the competitions every month. A special thank you gift was given to ever-faithful judge Linda Melson who has also been given the great honour of being asked to judge at Congress.

Also present was June Andersen, who designed the original banner for YWP WI in 1968. A few domestic matters were then read, thanking members and their husbands for their continued support. More raffles were drawn and the successful evening ended with lots of tea and birthday cake. Many thanks to the faithful committee who continue to do such amazing work. Best wishes to all members attending Congress later this month. Do enjoy.
