Bowling team to jet to nationals

A fundraising tournament was held to raise funds for the Port Natal Bowls U30 team.

THE Wentworth Bowling Club was a buzz of activity as they hosted a trips tournament to raise funds for the Port Natal Bowls U30 team’s participation in the Bowls South Africa U30 Nationals in Hermanus, later this month.

Club president, Cheryl Waterman and umpire, Chrissie Smith.

The club and the Port Natal Bowls U30 district team were grateful to the Chas Everitt Property Group for their contribution to the success of the event, held on September 3.

Nicky van der Westhuizen and Marizka Erasmus helped raise funds with a raffle.

Club president, Cheryl Waterman, said the sponsorship played a major role in attracting a full contingent of bowlers to the event, ensuring that the goal of raising R10 000 was met.

“We raised the amount we aimed for, as well as an additional R1 170, raised through a raffle run by the Chas Everitt property consultants. The donation was handed to the managers of the U30 team at the prize giving after the tournament. We express our gratitude to Renaldo Geldenhuys, Nicky van der Westhuizen and David Malton for their support. The winners on the day were Keegan, Charles and Nicola Bauristhene, making the win a family affair. In second spot were Chris Strover, John Connellan and Jason Butterfield and Phil Whitton’s team from Toti Bowling Club, who ended the day’s play in third place. Every other participant received a spot prize,” said Waterman.
