Harlequins rugby club celebrates a night of triumph

The ceremony brought together the senior men’s and women’s rugby teams, supporters and sponsors to celebrate a hardworking season and to thank the sponsors for their support.

THE Harlequins Sports Club on The Bluff buzzed with excitement during its annual prize-giving event on August 17. The ceremony brought together the senior men’s and women’s rugby teams to celebrate a season marked by dedication, hard work and teamwork.

Youandi Gilain, manager of the Harlequins women’s rugby team, reflected on the event’s success. “The evening was pure magic. It truly showcased the hard work and spirit of the Harlequins family,” she said.

Winners of the night were met with enthusiastic cheers. Tarisai Mugariri was honoured as the Men’s Backline of the Year, while Amy Petzer received the Women’s Backline of the Year award. Ishmael Bara was named Men’s Forward of the Year, with Slindiwe Bekwa earning the title of Women’s Forward of the Year.

Kurt Theunis was recognised as the Men’s Most Improved Player of the Year, with Courtney Joseph receiving the same honour for the women. Mactavish Ngulube was chosen as the Men’s Players’ Player of the Year, while Madison Moulton took home the award for the women. Ane Wencke and Jordan Jonker shared the title of New Player of the Year. The Chairman’s Cup was awarded to Glynnis Dauth.

Gilain also highlighted the opportunity to thank the club’s sponsors for their unwavering support. Optimum Sports SA and Doorman Muscle Centre were acknowledged for their ongoing contributions, with trophy sponsors including Century 21’s Liezel Gerber, Glynnis Dauth, Cuthbert Musendame, Youandi Gilain, Alfresco and Lovemark.

The event served as a fitting celebration of the season’s triumphs, bringing together players, sponsors and supporters to reflect on the success and community spirit that defines Harlequins rugby.
