WATCH: Bowler secures spot in champions semi-final

Brad Claassens drew two jack-level bowls that his competitor couldn't dislodge, claiming victory.

MEMBERS of Wentworth Bowling Club (WBC) are elated with the performance and remarkable victory of their men’s club singles champion, Brad Claassens, in the Port Natal Bowls Champion of Champions final.

Claassens’ incredible wins against top-class opponents throughout the knockout tournament earned him a spot in the semi-finals.

In his gripping match, he faced off against Chris Strover, the reigning champion from Stella Park Bowling Club. With a display of strategic placement, he played solid shots to secure his spot in the final, leaving supporters from WBC and other clubs in awe and admiration of his accomplishments.

The pinnacle of the competition presented an even greater challenge for Claassens, as he had to take the mat against the reigning South African National Singles Champion, Paul White. Facing such a seasoned and skilled opponent would have been seen as a daunting task by any bowler, but 29 year-old Claassens’ has never been one to back down from a challenge and he faced the game resolutely.

The final started with Paul White taking an early lead, and dominating the scoreboard with 7 shots to Claassens’ 1. The tension was palpable as supporters held their breath, hoping for a miraculous turnaround.

His cool and collected demeanor came to the fore as he meticulously placed his bowls around the jack and changed the momentum of the game when he picked up four shots in the sixth end.

As the match reached its crucial moments, the score stood at a nail-biting 19-18 in Claassens favour. With just two shots needed to clinch victory, the WBC champion drew two jack-level bowls that Paul couldn’t dislodge, sealing Claassens’ triumph as the 21-18 winner and the district Champion of Champions.

Undoubtedly, his remarkable achievement will be spoken about for years to come, etching Claassens name into the annals of bowling history at Wentworth Bowling Club.
