‘Champion karate kid’ off to SA tourney

Jessica attained her South African Colours and bagged gold and silver medals, every year.

MONTCLAIR teenager, Jessica Geyser’s karate journey has been filled with accolades and she has made her mark in the world of martial arts.

Dubbed by her friends and family as their ‘champion karate kid’, Jessica is geared up to fight at the South African championships at the end of July, where she will compete in the kata and kumita categories.

“I began karate in 2015 while living in Dundee with my mom and grandparents. We moved to Durban in 2020 and I began classes at JKA Westville under the leadership of Sensei Dylan Powell, who has been absolutely amazing.

“Since 2015 I have been grading each year to achieve my black belt,” she said.
Every year, I compete at the JKA Karate KZN tournaments where the winners elected are able to compete in the SA championship tournament in Johannesburg.

Jessica attained her South African Colours and bagged gold and silver medals, every year.

Last year, she brought home two gold medals for kata and kumita and this year for KZN, she brought home gold for kumita and bronze for kata at brown belt.
