Wentworth bowlers compete in men’s drawn trips final

Congratulations to the finalists who will play for championship status - Wayne Smith, Dave Carroll and Vic McCreanor with face off against Troy Garland, Denzil Lewis and Wayne Booysen.

THIS weekend saw a flurry of competitive bowls on the green at Wentworth Bowling Club (WBC) as the men’s drawn trips sides played the competition to final stage.

On Sunday, September 12, both semi-finals ended with scores where the shot difference was less than five.

Congratulations to the finalists who will play for championship status on Sunday, September 19 – Wayne Smith, Dave Carroll and Vic McCreanor with face off against Troy Garland, Denzil Lewis and Wayne Booysen.

At the same time the women’s nominated pairs finalists will battle for supremacy. Eileen du Plessis and Dawn Spack will take on Maria Cavanagh and Anne Bonthrone in what promises to be a tight contest.

Friday’s Tomasina men’s casual bowls was a productive morning for Errol Pienaar, Kurt Spack and Johan Nel, who managed a shot difference of +11 to claim top spot on the podium.

Gees Dennis and Bryan Weldon ended the morning’s play two shots behind the victors and the sportsmen’s prize went to Ian Hayes, Len Pugh and Jim Aitken.

Ori Haripersadh chose the lucky number on the raffle sheet and left with a fair sized Cornish hen.

Two 60/ 40 boards were drawn and Graham Bransby, Rajen Pillay, Greg Ferns and Dudley Dorrofield all pocketed some reward.

A list is up for entries to the 20 end fun two-bowl trips bowls on Heritage Day on Friday, September 24.

There is a cash prize for the winners and drawn spot prizes. A special lunch of filled pancakes with a cheese sauce is on offer.

Newcomers are welcome to join in the fun – the dress code is bright colours to depict our rainbow nation.

Those with young children can take advantage of the new kiddies’ play park in the Wildflower Nursery at the club.
