Wentworth Bowling Club hosts a fun day of bowls on Freedom Day

Next week Tuesday, 27 April, is Freedom Day and the community is invited to join in a fun day at the club and enjoy a game of bowls and a build a burger lunch.

LAST Friday’s Tomasina men’s casual bowls at Wentworth Bowling Club (WBC) was a case of the long and short when big Jacques Geldenhuis teamed up with Mike Hough to take top spot with a plus 20.

Two shots behind them were Graham Bransby, Mark Russell-Boulton and Albert van Niekerk, leaving the sportsmen’s prize to Lew Scrooby, Maurice Faulkner and Raj Pillay.

Errol Pienaar chose the lucky raffle number and took home two chickens and one of the lucky board numbers. He joined other winners, Lew Scrooby, Graham Bransby and Mike Hough.

This week’s calendar includes the Tomasina bowls on Friday, 23 April, and the monthly Big Jim pairs on Sunday, 25 April.

The men’s league resumes on Saturday, 24 April, with all three sides playing at home.

The women’s fours final will be played on Saturday afternoon while the men are competing in their league games.

Next week Tuesday, 27 April, is Freedom Day and the community is invited to join in a fun day at the club and enjoy a game of bowls and a build a burger lunch.

The theme for the day is ‘free 2 B U’ – which is anything goes. Show some South African spirit and contact Vic McCreanor on 061-628-8912 to book a spot.

The greens are closed this week (opening on Friday morning) for essential maintenance and the application of pesticides and fertiliser.

Regretful this will affect this week’s Wednesday development bowls, but Lorraine White will be back next week to register anyone who would like to challenge the bias.
