Wentworth Bowling Club’s three novice bowlers compete for top spot

The club wishes its three novice men good bowling in their next games.

The highlight of Wentworth Bowling Club’s (WBC) weekend was the success of its three novice men who won their games at Durban Bowling Club and have advanced to the last 16 in the competition.

The club extends congratulations to Denzil Lewis, Kearan Lassak and Gees Dennis and wishes them best bowling next Saturday, 6 March, in the endeavour to gain a place in the quarter finals.

Two women’s team members, Trudy Rautenbach and Amelia Booyens, in their first Port Natal district competition, acquitted themselves commendably against more experienced opposition. Their performances auger well for successful careers on the greens.

Friday’s Tomasina men’s casual bowls saw Deon Els pair up with Albert van Niekerk and build up a respectable plus 17 to take top spot on the morning’s podium. Jacques Geldenhuys and Craig Pretorius finished three shots behind in second place.

Addie Fuller and Mike Hough took home the sportsman’s prize and Gees Dennis left with two chickens to grace his dinner table. Jo Jo Jordaan made a clean sweep on the 60/ 40 board and pocketed both prizes.

On Saturday, 27 February, the men’s fours team comprising Troy Garland, Simon Garland, Luvuyo Ndava and Matt Lassak played their way into the final carded for Sunday, 7 March, at 9am. They will know their opposition after the second semi-final between Willie Meintjes, Johnny ‘Mooiman’ du Plessis, Kurt Spack, Denzil Lewis and Brian Smith, Robin de Gouveia, Dave Carroll and Moses Nuba is played on Tuesday, 2 March, at 2pm.

The monthly Grand Rapid Spur Big Jim pairs played on Sunday morning, 28 February, proved to be a triumphant morning for Simon Garland and Spider Williams who swept the boards with a resounding two plus 35 to take the top sponsored prize.

In second place were Kurt Spack and Robin de Gouveia with Willie Meintjes and Matt Lassack winning the second session. Mike Hough won the raffled two chickens and Denzil Lewis and Robin de Gouveia shared the spoils from the 60/ 40 board.

The coveted perfect delivery bowls bag, donated by Jay Retief, was won by an ecstatic Spider Williams.
