Step back in time on Delville Wood hike

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club's weekend hikes

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club will visit Delville Wood in Shongweni on Saturday, 1 September.

Call hike leader Abdullah on 084-478-6779 about this grade two hike of about 10km.

The long, rewarding hike will go through sugar cane, then down to the railway line and Delville Wood station, through the old railway tunnels to see Kirk Falls.

Hikers can enjoy drinks afterwards at Shongweni Club. The hike starts at 2pm from the Denny Mushroom car park (don’t forget to tip the car guard). Directions: Take the M13, exit 33, left into Kassier Road, over Toll Road, left towards Shongweni Dam.

On Sunday, 2 September there is a joint hike with Midlands Hiking Club to Everdon Estates in Karkloof.

Email hike leader Keith Ashton at keimarg@iuncapped.co.za about this grade three hike of about 12 to 15km.

This hike will take hikers through Everdon Estates with someone who knows the area better than anybody. This hike has some of the most spectacular views in the area, taking in the Umgeni and Karkloof rivers. Cecil Hackney will lead the hike but bookings are through Keith and hikers must book early to secure a place. Closing date is Wednesday, 29 August. There is a R20 donation to the conservancy.
