BOWLERS at Wentworth Bowling Club are reminded that the men’s and women’s teams for the Wentworth versus Bluff challenge have been posted.

Although the contest to win the trophies is a serious one, these games are played in a spirit of camaraderie and a real sense of sportsmanship between the two local clubs.

Games will be played on Monday, 25 September (the Heritage Day public holiday), with play starting at 9am.

Bowlers who play in the monthly Grand Rapid Spurs Big Jim pairs competition should diarise Sunday, 24 September. Play starts at 9am. The sponsor has been extra generous with the prizes this month so the incentive to get on the winners’ podium is even greater. Sincere thanks are extended to Grand Rapids Spur for their continued sponsorship of bowls. This allows clubs to run promotion and recruitment drives and to maintain support of their existing bowlers.

Women still in the mix in the veteran singles competition will play their rounds on Friday, 23 September when play starts at 1.30pm.

The order of play for the men’s drawn pairs has been posted. Members should check the board for these details.

Wednesday afternoon’s Family and Friends development bowls has produced some promising bowlers who are now competing in club competitions and inter-club leagues. This initiative aims to encourage and assist the development of lawn bowls. Anyone who wishes to try their hand at the battle of the bias is invited to attend. Play starts at 3pm and bowls are available for those who don’t have their own.

The Game Changer’s kitchen will be preparing their daily specials and the regular pub meals on offer to members and visitors. Contact Marike on 071-594-1225 for details.
