Hikers to explore Kloof swamp forest this weekend

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club hikes to Glenholme Nature Reserve in Kloof on Saturday, 16 September.

Hikers should meet at 1.45pm at the Kloof and Highway SPCA lower parking lot. This hike through the reserve and down into the valley/gorge will cover grasslands, riverine, scarp and swamp forests in a short distance. The waterfall and streams form part of the headwaters of the Umbilo River. There is a R20 donation towards the upkeep of the reserve.

This 6km hike is graded two to three, moderate to strenuous and it includes a vertigo warning. A hiking pole is recommended.

 

On Sunday, 17 September hikers will explore The Ambers in Howick.

This hike is in an extended area of ‘The Ambers’ and includes lovely views around Howick and surrounding area, plenty of game and birdlife. This is a combined hike with other clubs which means booking is essential. A maximum of 12 members can be accommodated, on a first come first served basis. The last booking will be taken on Wednesday, 13 September. There is a R20 per person donation.

This 12km to 15km hike is graded two to three, moderate to strenuous.
