BBC’s Robert outplayed by Proteas bowler but wins PN district squad berth

THE Port Natal singles Champion of Champions bowls was played this weekend and both Bluff Bowling Club’s men and women champions fared well in this prestigious tournament.

Daphne Reinhardt was unfortunately knocked out in the semi-final by the eventual winner.

Robert Mhlongo went through to the final and unfortunately lost 21-15 to Wayne Rittmuller who is a Protea bowler, the current RSA singles champion and the Port Natal masters champion. Congratulations and well played Robert and Daphne.

Robert has also been chosen for the Port Natal district squad.

Friday night’s lotto was a carry-over and the attendance draw was won by Robbie Johnston who was not present to collect his money. The joker draw was won by the syndicate, which could not find the joker, so the pool is now worth over R2,000.

Sponsored competitions played included the Grand Rapid Spur/Acutts any pairs where the first session was won by Jorge Santos and Lilah Nel, second session to Brian and Paula Osman, second prize to Tom Cloete and Derek Stevens and the winners were Bob Hayward and Gary Moffat.

On Friday, the 3-2-1 killer sponsored by June and Glynis saw first session go to Gerald Chandler Royle and Tom Cloete, second session to Ben Newton and Herman and overall winners Johan Nel and Kokkie van der Westhuizen. Most touchers went to Errol Pienaar, the boards were won by Steve Evenwell and Derek Stevens, the meat went to Tom Cloete and the sportsman’s prize to Albert van Niekerk and Wessie Wessels.

In the sponsored Diving Bell any pairs played on Sunday, first session went to Kurt and Dawn Spack, second session to Lilah Nel and Ronel Morel and overall winners were Jumbo Nel and Rob Armstrong. The board was won by Kurt Spack, the chickens by Phil and the wine by Michael Schrudel.

There are men’s and women’s competitions posted for Saturday, 12 August and six games of mixed pairs posted for Sunday, 13 August. There will be a bring and braai after Sunday’s games, so members are asked to check when they are playing.
