Singles bowls action heats up at Wentworth BC

The men’s open singles and the womens novice singles preliminary rounds were played on Saturday.

WENTWORTH Bowling Club’s development bowls played on Wednesday afternoon was won by Johnny du Plessis and Ron Addinall.

Jay Retief and Phil Hill won the biscuit prize.

The first prize on the 60/40 board was scooped by Margaret Walters and Phil Hill pocketed the second prize. Members of the community who would like to try their hand at the game of bowls are invited to join in on Wednesday afternoon for a 3pm start.

Bluff Meat Supply men’s bowls saw Colin Nicholas, Robbie Carr and Johan Nel lead the field with a plus 19 shot difference. Finishing in second place were Hilton Lassak, Joe McNamara and Ron Addinall. Gerald C Royle, Butch Ellis and Victor McCreanor took the week’s sportsmen’s prize. For the second week in a row, Marike Jonker won the raffled pork roast and a lucky Robbie Carr took home the roast beef. The two Kens – Thomas and Koch – won the spoils from the first 60/40 board and Dirk Venter and Gerald C Royle were the winners on the second board.

The men’s open singles and the women’s novice singles preliminary rounds were played on Saturday. Thanks are extended to all those who turned up to assist with marking. Special thanks go to the non-novice women who turned up in their numbers to ensure the men were able to field a full first round to get the competition underway. Finalists in the novice singles are Lorraine White and Ann Bonthrone. The men’s competition has reached the semi-final stage and will see Dave Carroll play Thys Moolman and Try Garland take on Terry Michelson.
