Bluff BC men’s A league team hammer home fours victory over Hillary

The attendance prize now sits at over R900 and members are encouraged to be there next Friday to stand a chance to win it.

LAST Thursday saw Bluff Bowling Club (BBC) host its monthly Acutts any pairs.

The warm weather added to the heat on the greens, as the bowlers dotted their bowls around the jack.

In the end Robbie Carr and Ron Hook were able to draw the closest dots to take the overall prize. They now sit on the perch and need to win next month’s edition of the competition to take home the R900 jackpot.

On Friday night the festivities moved to the braai area at BBC, with the Fynnland old boys sharing boerie rolls and a few Captains to boot. While the smoke haze brewed outside, the Lotto jackpot and attendance prize were carried over inside. The attendance prize now sits at over R900 and members are encouraged to be there on Friday to stand a chance to win it.

Saturday afternoon welcomed the second round of the Port Natal men’s league fours with both the A and B sides having home fixtures. The greens saw ditch bowls abound as the bowlers battled to adjust to the speedy surface. As adjustments were made, the better bowlers came to the fore and the heads tightened. The A side pulled away to beat Hillary B 7-0, while the B side lost their way somewhat to go 0-5 down to Wentworth A.

On Sunday the BBC’s last representatives in the Port Natal mixed pairs, Gary Moffat and Lilah Nel bowed out in the knock out stages. In a close game the Bluff team were edged in the last end. Also over the weekend, the women’s drawn fours opening rounds were played as the quartet of Janice Rodgers, Daphne Reinhardt, Phyllis Maritz and Paula Osman defeated Sarie Bisset, Dawn Spack, Ronel Morel and Cheryl Bower. Meanwhile Bridget White, Lilah Nel, Chrisse and Koekie Koekemoer overcame Elize Stapelberg, Glynis Mackrory, Louise Breytenbach and Kitty.

Looking ahead this week sees the men’s and women’s league teams in action and bowlers are reminded to keep a keen eye on the board for team updates and tournament postings. Also a reminder that BBC offers hall rental with a braai area, bar facilities and secure parking. Call Phyllis on 079-898-6392.
