Interclub bowls league set to start

Team selections have been posted on the board and bowlers are reminded to check it for further postings.

WITH the league schedule starting, Oppenheimer pairs competition approaching, club tournaments aplenty and fun days ahead, Bluff Bowling Club (BC) bowlers are urged to address their diaries to ensure time for the family is set aside.

Before we get there, let’s have a look at last week’s past performances.

Last Saturday saw the last of Bluff BC’s flag-bearers fall at Parkhill in the Port Natal trips competition. It was hard lines for the trio of Robert Mhlongo, Noel Morel and Michael Schudel as they bowed out in the round of 16, going down 13-15.

On Sunday the BBC hosted the well supported Diving Bell pairs. As always the bowlers had their frolic with a wick here and a few wrong biases there. In the end the more skilled bowlers strutted their stuff to take home the prizes. First session was won by Paul White and Eddie Human and the second session by Brian and Paula Osman. Dave Le Roux and Bridget White flayed their opposition before romping home to overall victory. Other prize winners were Lilah Nel taking the 50/50 board, and Ronel Morel and Dave Le Roux the chicken raffles. Thanks to the sponsors Lilah and Gary for providing such a lovely spread of snacks for tea.

Looking ahead, the bowls calendar becomes ever fuller. This Friday sees the BBC host the ever popular ‘June and Glynis’s’ 3-2-1 men’s killer competition with tea and lunch included in the competition fee. For competition enquiries and entries, contact Dudley on 072-226-8811. Then on Saturday the Port Natal interclub men’s league begins with two teams representing the BBC. Team selections have been posted on the board and bowlers are reminded to check it for further postings. Sunday sees the start of the Port Natal Oppenheimer mixed pairs competition with the BBC being well represented with several teams entered. With a big bowling weekend ahead, one expects the greens to be busy this week with the bowlers putting in their final practises.

Looking further ahead the BBC will host a fun day on Saturday, 15 April. Open to all, it is an opportunity for non-bowlers to experience the joys of bowls in a casual environment. For enquires contact Dawn on 083-453-0272. Also a reminder that Bluff BC offers hall rental with a braai area, bar facilities and secure parking. Call Phyllis on 079-898-6392.
