SATURDAY saw two club competitions played at Wanderers Bowling Club (BC), with Wonki overcoming Robbie Spiller 21-14 to progress to the men’s singles final.

Steve van Rooyen and Bob Hayward took on Chris Klopper and Derek Stevens but failed to progress to the next round, losing 18-12.

The breakfast trips drew some new faces, and some new winners as well.

The R5 board saw Arnie Harper and Richard Hendicott claim the R50 prizes and the meat prizes went to Tom Cloete and Vicky Williams. Main prizes winners saw Lennie, Neville and Martin claim the sportsman’s prize, while first session went to Peter P, Dave 54 and ‘Mr Bowls’ Gordon Chislette. Second session winners were Spider, Hilton and Joe. Terrance McGlynn’s side claimed the Dan Paruk sponsored prize on a 4+12, with Steve, Graham and Luke claiming the second overall prize on 4+14. Clear winners were Wonki and Denis and Chantal Hearnshaw on a 4+18 – Well done to them.

Wednesday’s Taffy pairs sponsored by Rawsons Properties Montclair saw Bob Hayward and Andy Cloete win on a 4+17. First session went to Chris Klopper and Lennie Roscoe on a 2+5, and second session went to Lofty Cawthorne and Claude Newman. The 60/40 board winners were Ken Thomas and Robbie Carr. Julia claimed the pork roast raffle results. The mid-week lotto was also a carryover and now sits over R530.

For the Lynne Wilds pairs this Wednesday, call Ken if you wish to enter a side on 073-613-9733.

Friday’s various meat pack winners were: Lamb pack – Des Demmer, beef – Rob Philogene, pork roast – Martin van Staden, rump – Clinton Walker, chicken pack – BJ Turk, chicken – Jackie Freeman.

The snowball sitting on R2,100 was a carry-over as RG Le Tourneur was drawn, but not present.

The Friday lotto was also another carry-over with R1,550 in the pool as numbers 1-7-11 were not taken.

The joker draw reached a carry-over of R17,985 as Lofty Cawthorne turned over the queen of hearts and not the elusive joker.

The scribe advises all bowlers, both members and visitors, that Bob Hayward will host a league training session on 21 March at 9am in mufti. All are encouraged to put their names on the board so the club is aware of the numbers, and all are encouraged to attend. The idea is to do some evaluation exercises for front rank and back rank, and then have a game thereafter. Should you wish to assist with marking, that will also be appreciated. Call Bob on 076-403-2265.

The annual VC Memorial will also be held on 1 May – two bowlers or two non-bowlers are encouraged to enter, call Jeff for further details on 082-808-7793.

The club’s thoughts and prayers are extended to those members on the recovery list. Get well soon fellow Wanderers.
