YWP Primary cricket player bats for glory

His biggest dream is to play for the Dolphins and for the South African team.

YOUNG cricket enthusiast, Joshua Ramawtar (10) wants to encourage other children his age to join the sport that has brought joy and happiness into his life.

The grade 5 Yellowwood Park Primary pupil has impressive skills in the sport and has been selected to as part of the Durban South U11 cricket team as an all-rounder. He captains his school team at KFC mini cricket.

His love for cricket began when his father gave him a bat and ball when he was just three-years-old. “I enjoyed playing it but it was after watching my favourite player AB de Villiers dominate the pitch that I realised where his passion lies. He’s a quality player and I like how he moves. he will always be my inspiration,” said Joshua.

His biggest dream is to play for the Dolphins and for the South African team. “I want to become a professional sportsman and I do believe I can make it,” he added. Being an all-rounder it proved difficult for the young cricketer to choose his favourite position. “I like to think I’m strong in all areas but I love batting and bowling more. He recently won a cricket ball for scoring a hat trick in a recent game.

Besides cricket, the all-rounder is a good swimmer, hockey player and an academic with a love for history and geography. ” I like to stay busy and play other sports and learn but my heart is with cricket and nothing else,” he laughed.

He thanked all his coaches from the KFC mini cricket for supporting him and teaching him valuable lessons in the sport. He also thanked Yellowwood Park Primary cricket coach, Mr Van Thiel for helping him grow and for the great advice. “Most importantly I thank my father for introducing me to the sport and pushing me to stay focused and being great. I thank my mother for her encouragement and for always packing my lunch and making sure I stay healthy and strong so I can be the greatest.”
