Busy weekend for BBC

BLUFF Bowling Club (BBC) had a busy weekend with a host of tournaments taking place around the district.
On Friday night the penultimate round of the Warwick mixed twilight trips was played, with the team of Paul White, Bridget White and Dave Le Roux consolidating their lead.
The last round will be held this Friday and there is everything to play for, as the log leaders can still be pipped at the post. A reminder that after the final round of the competition, the club will hold a bring and braai with salads on offer at a nominal fee.
Saturday saw the sectional rounds of the Port Natal men’s senior singles played at the BBC and many thanks go to the 12 markers who braved the scorching heat. Saturday also saw the BBC men compete in the Port Natal open singles and the more senior men in the Port Natal senior singles. While some good performances were put in, the BBC bowlers were unable to push through and by the end of Saturday, the last of the Bluff bowlers were eliminated.
The women also had their turn to bowl with the club singles competition being played on Saturday afternoon. The results saw Glynis Mackrory defeat Jay Retief, Elize Stapelberg beat Ronel Morel and Daphne Reinhardt overcome Dawn Spack, with the trio moving into the latter rounds of the competition.
Looking ahead to this week, Friday sees the BBC host the men’s 3-2-1 competition, while the Diving Bell pairs scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled. This is due to the fact that the BBC will host the Bluff men’s fours competition. Some 96 bowlers are expected to take to the greens on Saturday and Sunday, and more spectator support will be welcome. These competitions are open to bowlers from across the district.
