Quins RC shows flair in early season tussle with Warriors

Although rusty, there were enough positives that showed the side has a lot to look forward to.

THE first Harlequins Rugby Club warm-up game was played last weekend in Uvongo against South Coast Warriors in hot and humid conditions.

The conditions took its toll in the last part of the game.

The home side were wonderful hosts as always and Quins thank them for the early season outing.

The Mighty Quins gave a good account of themselves and the home side rarely threatened the visitor’s try-line. Harlequins played well as the coaches mixed and matched the players, to give them an opportunity to get to know the players’ strengths.

Although rusty, there were enough positives that showed the side has a lot to look forward to. The front row had the most fun on the day, as the home side found the going tough at scrum time. Honourable mentions go to Tyler Barnard, Selwyn Barnard and Eben Botha who showed good early season form.

The home side won four tries to one, scoring all their tries in the last 15 minutes.

The next match will be at the Ronnie van Rooyen memorial day on Saturday, 4 March. The club looks forward to seeing everyone there – don’t forget to take the children along to meet Sharkie between 11am and 2pm.

Special thanks go to Levi Santiago Swartz and Fabricon for the use of their van which assisted with transport to and from the match.
