FRIDAY morning was a busy one for bowlers at Wentworth Bowling Club who competed in the Bluff Meat men’s bowls.

Brian Smith, Rod Slogrove and Dudley Sanders managed a plus 16 to sneak into the lead ahead of Brian Duncan, Travis Engelbrecht and Ben Venter who finished the morning with a plus 15 to secure second place overall.

The sportsmen’s prize went to Colin Nicholas, Terry Micholson and Neil Smith. Graham Bransby is making a habit of winning one of the raffled roasts. This week he took home the pork roast and Steve Evenwell was happy to hear his number called from the draw to be declared winner of the beef. The first 60/40 board was shared by Dudley Sanders and Colin ‘Snowy’ Howes. Maria Cavanagh made it a clean sweep off the second board when she won both prizes.

Every Wednesday the group who participate in the Family and Friends development bowls gather to practise their skills on the greens. This initiative was introduced to encourage members of the community to try their hand at the game. Lawn bowls can be played by all ages, and many youngsters who started the game early are now playing at district level. Members of the community are invited to pop down to the club at 3pm every Wednesday. Bowls will be provided for those who do not have access.

The Valentine hamper raffled by Susan Drew for the club kitchen will be drawn today. Make sure you have a ticket to have a chance to win. The ‘Game Changers’ take charge of the kitchen on 14 February and many new developments to improve the menu are in the pipeline. Any enquiries regarding the catering and the booking of the hall and its surrounds can be directed to Susan on 078-277-1826. Wentworth Bowling Club’s hall is available for hiring for private functions and braai facilities are on offer for corporate functions and team building events. The big screen can be set up to watch sporting highlights.
