Wentworth PNB novice singles bowlers sunk by two shots

Congratulations are extended to Bernie Pool and Craig Herholdt who pitted themselves well against worthy opponents in the PNB novice singles on Saturday.

THERE was little to report from Wentworth Bowling Club’s greens last week as bowlers preferred to take to the shade or indoors to seek relief from the effects of the extreme temperatures that plagued Durban.

Congratulations are extended to Bernie Pool and Craig Herholdt who pitted themselves well against worthy opponents in the PNB novice singles on Saturday.

Both of the club’s bowlers fought long and hard and lost their games by only two shots.

The community is reminded of the open invitation extended to anyone who would like to try their hand at the game of bowls. They are welcome to attend the Family and Friends development bowls played every Wednesday afternoon at 3pm.

The men’s competition secretary has posted a list requesting those members who would like to participate in the men’s interclub league to record their willingness. League commences in April.

Tom ‘Cat’ Cavanagh has undergone carpal tunnel surgery on both hands. He is wished a speedy recovery and a quick return to his commitments at the club.

Things are abuzz at the club over the new jacket that will take over the kitchen and catering. Susan Drew will be managing the kitchen and catering division in collaboration with and with the support of the club committee. Susan will be ably assisted by Natalie and Campbell who have extensive catering experience. Susan’s plan is to introduce new initiatives and developments that will improve the menu and to include a few new events to encourage more member patronage. The team will be known as ‘Game Changers’ and their goal is to supply members and friends with satisfying meals and opportunities to interact with fellow bowlers after the game.

‘Game Changers’ kick off on Tuesday, 14 February and have arranged a special raffle for Valentine’s Day. This will be on display in the bar area for members to ensure they have a ticket in the draw. Any enquiries regarding the catering and the booking of the hall and its surrounds can be directed through Susan on 078-277-1826. The hall is available for hiring for private functions and braai facilities are on offer for corporate functions and team building events. The big screen can be set up to watch sporting highlights.
