Lively Fridays lie ahead for BBC

In housekeeping, Bluff bowlers are also reminded to keep a keen eye on the board as a host of club competitions have been posted and entries are now open.

GOOD times and fine bowls were the order of the week as the new year beckoned a new season of bowls at Bluff Bowling Club (BBC).

Last Thursday saw the club host the Acutts pairs competition with a decently sized field in attendance.

Played out in glorious sunshine, where mini battles ensued until the final victors were declared. First session prize was won by Jumbo Nel and Buck Potgieter, with Brian and Paula Osman taking the second. The 50/50 board was won by Deon Maritz, while Tom Cloete took home the meat hamper prize. Chad Wilson and Chris Pozyn continued their ‘lucky streak’ taking the overall honours, and now, sitting on the perch, stand to take home the R800 jackpot if they can repeat their performance in next month’s competition.

On Friday the rain came as play was about to start in the twilight mixed trips at the BBC, forcing a postponement to the start of the competition. Twilight trips is now set to commence from this Friday, 27 January at 5.15pm and continue for five weeks subsequent to that, allowing for the full competition to be played.

On Saturday, the Port Natal women’s novice singles began with the BBC represented by Louise Du Plessis and Cheryl Bower. Playing at Berea BC, Louise managed to pull through a 21-15 victory, while Cheryl Bower bowed out at Durban. The next round of the Port Natal men’s novice singles starts on Saturday, 28 January at Durban Bowling Club with Chad Wilson and Sheldon Wicks still in the mix.

The coming Friday nights at BBC are set to be a lively affair, with a host of activities and entertainment on offer. Along with the twilight bowls this week, live music will be provided by Craig Nash from 6pm to 8pm, with light meals available. Added to that are the Friday traditions of the attendance draw, won by Phyllis Maritz last week, and the lotto jackpot which now stands at over R1,500. Truly exciting times are to be had at BBC.

Onto housekeeping, Bluff bowlers are reminded to keep a keen eye on the board as a host of club competitions have been posted and entries are now open.

A reminder that the club offers hall rental with a braai area, bar facilities and secure parking. Call Phyllis on 079-898-6392.
