Bird’s bowlers take flight in Bluff BC 3-2-1 killers trips

Port Natal pairs tournament started this last week end, and the club had a very good representation in this.

DUE to there only being one Bluff Bowling Club green available for play at the moment, the men’s monthly 3-2-1 killer was played on a trips format instead of the normal pairs format this month.

Overall winners were Alan Bird, Hilton Lassak and Steve Evenwell.

First session went to Johan Nel, Coy Schrauwen and Neville Roscoe. Second session was won by Duncan Wright, Peter (Toti) and Kurt Spack. Alan Bird also won for the most touchers, having had seven of them. Roast beef winner was Tom Cloete and the 50/50 board was won by Reg B. Colin Howes, Henry Welgemoed and Andy Cloete won the sportman’s prize.

Saturday club competitions saw Greg Dorrofield and Eddie Human being crowned the nominated pairs champions for the year. On the women’s side, Paula Osman beat Jay Retief in point singles, and Daphne Reinhardt and Sarie Bisset won against Janice Rodgers and Dawn Spack in the women’s nominated pairs.

Competitions for the coming week for the men will involve drawn pairs final, between Dave le Roux and Steve Baker versus Clinton Bisset and Hilton Lassak. There will also be a game of men’s drawn fours. There is one game of point singles for the women.

On Sunday, the mixed nominated pairs and mixed drawn trips will be played.

Port Natal pairs tournament started this past weekend, and the club had good representation. Four of the pairs teams have progressed to the knock-out stage. They are Robert Mhlongo and Noel Morrel as well as Spider Williams and Hilton Lassak for the men, and among the women it’s Bridget White and Glynis Mackrory and Daphne Reinhardt and Sarie Bisset. This tournament will continue on 18 September at Stella Park Bowling Club. Congratulations to these teams. From reports received, it appears it was close call for the club to have a lot more teams through the first rounds of play. Particular mention is made of two of the newest members, Chad and Ryan, who teamed up and won two of their three games. Well done on a great effort.
