Clean sweep for Wentworth’s Lilah, Gary

Friday’s Bluff Meat’s men’s bowls was won by Graham Bransby and Ben Venter who ended the morning with a 10 shot advantage over Allan Ritchie and Ron Parsonage.

GARY Moffat and Lilah Nel made it a clean sweep in the monthly competitions at the Wentworth Bowling Club when they won the Chicken Shack pairs competition on Wednesday morning.

Then on Thursday morning, with Bridget White on their side, they took top spot on the podium in the Rawsons breakfast trips contest.

In second place in the Chicken Shack pairs were Luvoyo Ndava and Bob Hayward.

Dave Rowe and Kurt Spack won the second session prize. The meat raffle was won by Margaret Walters. Ellen Loots and Andy Cloete shared the spoils on the 60/40 board. Congratulations are extended to the teams of Ron Addinall and Ann Bonthrone and Tom Cloete and Margaret Walters, who both picked up eight shots to qualify for a perfect eight badge.

In second place in the Rawsons breakfast trips were Arnie Harper, Robbie Carr and Chriss Klopper. Dave Rowe and Kurt Spack also made it two in a row when, teaming up with Allan Ritchie, they took the second session prize. The whiskey raffle was won by Gwen Tait and Jumbo Nel took home the raffled meat prize. Des Howard and Bernie Pool were all smiles when their numbers were drawn for the bottles of Rawsons red wine. Honey Kitchenbrand and Allan Ritchie were the winners on the first 60/40 board and Bernie Pool and Bob Hayward pocketed the booty from the second board.

The sportsman’s prize was awarded to Ronnie Jackson and Ivor Aylward. Tomcat Cavanagh won the raffled pork roast and Graham Bransby added to his day’s rewards when he won first prize on the 60/40 board. Coy Schraun won the second prize on the board.

Members will be busy with club competitions over the next few weeks. The women are reminded that the drawn pairs competition starts on Friday, 15 July at 1.30pm. Play will continue on Saturday at 9am with another round being played at 1.30pm. On Sunday the women’s drawn fours competition will start at 9am.

On Saturday, 16 July, John Somerville and Johnny ‘Mooiman’ du Plessis will take to the greens to do battle in the Doug Mitchell singles competition. Next Saturday, 23 July, will see the start of the Grace Hare mixed trips competition.

Following the success of the ‘July Day’ event, it has been decided that a similar affair will be held for the Gold Cup. Watch the notice board for details.

The community is reminded of the development bowls initiative which is held every Wednesday at 3pm. Anyone interested in trying their hand at the game of bowls are invite to attend. Club coaches, John Somerville on 083-512-4440 and Ellen Loots on 078-069-9287 can be contacted to arrange coaching sessions.

The club kitchen is open from Tuesday to Sunday for sit down and take away meals. Menu details are available from Bernie Pool who can be contacted on 072-294-1392.

The hall is available for hiring for private functions and braai facilities are on offer for corporate functions and team building events. The big screen can be set up to watch sporting highlights.
