THE Wanderers Bowling Club men’s open singles continued over the weekend.

Earlier in the week, Steve Van Rooyen despatched Pat McGlynn 21-7, Richard Hendicott beat Lofty Cawthorne 21-10 and Eric Smit beat Robbie Carr 21-8. Richard then went on to beat Eric Smit 21-10 to secure his spot in the final. He must await the outcomes of two matches before knowing who his opponent will be, as Steve has to play Anthony Carr, and the winner of that match faces Graham Funnell for the second finals berth.

In the women’s open singles, Chantal Hearnshaw beat Val McCaffrey 21-17.

The midweek league quest came to an end on Wednesday when Steve Van Rooyen and team were knocked out of the main plate event by an on-form Durban team skipped by veteran Sandy Miller. Dennis Gericke was narrowly knocked out of the second plate event after playing an extra end.

Friday’s R500 snowball was not won as Alan Swan was not present to collect. The meat pack winners were: Lamb pack and also the pork roast – PJ Sparks, rolled beef – Mike Hussey, rump steak – Chris Fourie, chicken pack – Alan Swan, chicken – S Harper.

Nobody had the correct lotto numbers of 2-7-10 so it is a R750 carry-over.

The bowls prize-giving will be held on 12 June at 2pm in the tabs room. Kim and Lorinne Hawkins will be running a bowls fun day on 16 June, which is a public holiday. Diarise these dates.
