Bluff trio win silver in PN inter district bowls

This will not affect the women and there are nominated pairs competitions being played. Check notice board for postings.

FRIDAY night’s attendance at Bluff Bowling Club was not as well supported as was hoped for, but those who were there were treated to good food and great company.

Thank you Dave Richardson for the scotch eggs and date scones.

The attendance draw was not won – Wayne Ingle missed out. Next week an amount of R1,080 is up for grabs. If you are not there, you cannot win.

Club competitions were played on Saturday and Deirdre Koekemoer emerged as the winner over Kitty Schafer in the novice singles final. In the women’s drawn pairs, Glynis Mackrory and Ronel Morel beat Elize Stapelberg and Jay Retief. There were four games of men’s pairs posted to play nominated pairs, unfortunately a no show from one player resulted in a scratching. The three games that did take place were Chris Poyzyn and Deon Els who beat Brian Osman and Kurt Spack, Steve Baker and Allan Ritchie beat Dave Rowe and Norman Robinson, while Greg Dorrofield and Eddy Human beat Spider Williams and Hilton Lasek.

The club is justifiably proud of its three members who took part in the Port Natal inter district tournament last week. Robert Mhlongo, Sarie Bisset and Bridget White managed to win silver for the district. Well done.

This last weekend saw the start of the Port Natal mixed pairs, known as the Oppenheimer. Bluff Bowling Club has a wonderful record in this tournament and always has a good entry. Sadly this year some of the Bluff BC teams had to withdraw before the start due to various reasons, but a creditable 11 teams did participate. The first day of this tournament is played on a round robin basis, each team having to play three games. The club is pleased to advise that three teams were successful and will go forward to play next week. They are Robbie Johnston and Daphne Reinhardt, Glynis Mackrory and Robert Mhlongo and Clinton and Sarie Bisset. The club wishes them all good bowling.

This Wednesday, the midweek league for men and women will commence after a short break. Bluff BC will host a section of women.

As the men’s league starts on Saturday, 16 April, there will be no men’s club competitions. The club’s division two men will play at Queensburgh while the division four teams will be at home against Chiltern Park. Note that games commence at 1.30pm.

This will not affect the women and there are nominated pairs competitions being played. Check notice board for postings.

Sunday is the monthly DJ Lashrite pairs at the club for those not playing Oppenheimer.
