BLUFF Bowling Club extends congratulations to Clinton Bisset, Robbie Johnston and Dave le Roux on winning the Port Natal trips competition recently.

It is nice to have a trophy so early in the year, and the club hopes it is the first of many.

Robbie was unanimously voted man of the match, not bad for a man of 84 who has just celebrated 61 years of marriage to Yvonne.

Warwick twilight trips has come to an end after six weeks. Congratulations to Bob Hayward and team on winning, Gary Moffets team who came second and Paul White and team who took third place.

The annual Bluff men’s fours sponsored by Warwick was held in extremely hot conditions and the club salutes all who took part, and thanks all who worked in the kitchen and bar, ran the tournament and did umpiring duties. Graham Ellis and team were the overall winners, Greg Dorrofield and team came second while the team of Clinton Bisset came third.

The club is proud of its players who form part of the Port Natal squad and congratulate them on winning the quadrangular tournament against Kingfisher, Natal Inland and KZN Country Districts. May they enjoy the same success in the inter district tournament to be played later at various venues around the country.

The Friday night attendance draw was won two weeks in a row, but sadly this last week Paula Osman was not present to collect her prize. Members whose tabs are drawn must be at the club on Friday nights in order to collect their prize money. Entry into this competition is free.

Club competitions this weekend saw the final of the open singles being won by Clinton (Spider) Williams. He will go on to represent the club in the Port Natal Champion of Champions. The drawn pairs teams of Robbie Johnston and Deon Els beat Norman Robinson and Dave Lavis, while Gary Moffet and Mouse Ratcliffe beat Jorge Santos and Rob Davies. Two games of mixed trips were played and Clinton Bisset, Harvey Simpkins and Loraine Smith beat Eddie Human, Dawn Spack and Michael Schudel, while Robert Mhlongo, Judy Marais and Hilton Lasek saw off Sarie Bisset, Allan Ritchie and Norman Robinson.

Port Natal senior singles started on Saturday and Glynis Macrory was unfortunately knocked out in the first round, but Daphne Reinhardt made it to the last eight. In the men’s section, Kurt Spack got as far as the last 16. Well done to all. This coming weekend will be the semi and finals of the open singles and the club wishes Bridget White very good bowling.

Coming up on Wednesday is the first round of Port Natal midweek league. Good bowling all the teams that have entered.

Thursday is the monthly Diving Bell pairs and Sunday is the DJ Lashrite monthly competition.

Due to the annual exodus of the men to Bergville this coming weekend, there are no men’s or mixed competitions posted. The one women’s competition being nominated pairs, has been postponed.

The club sends get well wishes to women’s competition secretary, Chrissie Smith, who is in hospital. The club needs you, so get well soon. Dudley Dorrofield gave members a bit of a scare this week but the club is pleased to report that he is well again and ready for the next 70 odd years.
