WITH the Wanderers Bowling Club women handicap singles having reached the final stages of the round robin competition, Jo-Anne Jordaan has secured the title by winning all her games thus far and is in an unassailable position.

She beat Val McCaffrey by 12, Lorinne Hawkins by 18, Joan Bruce by 9 and Gwen Tait by 13.

The playoff for the runner’s up spot will be played on Thursday morning between Gwen Tait and Joan Bruce.

Taffy’s pairs last Wednesday attracted a nice field and was a great success. Kudos again to Ken Thomas and Julia Venter for putting in the effort and ensuring good, ongoing sponsorship.

First session went to William Richardson, Val McCaffrey and Phil Pieterse on 2+14. Rex Meyer and Robbie Carr won the second session with 2+7 and Eric Smit and yours truly the overall with a 4+18. Each of them received a lovely cash prize together with a R100 voucher courtesy of Reyno of Roman’s Pizza. Ken Thomas did well on the raffles winning the rump steak, the wine and also R40 of the board draw. The remaining R20 went to Rex Meyer.

Alan Bird won a huge bag of potato crisps. The lotto was not won and is a carryover. Next Wednesday is Lyn Wild’s pairs, and it is hoped that attendance figures will again improve in line with the increased sponsor’s prizes on offer.

Sunday’s breakfast trips were a full house with both available greens fully utilised. John Yunnie and Chris Klopper each won R50 and John Yunnie (again) and Peter Prenger each won a meat pack on the R5 board draw/raffle. The sportsman’s prize went to Ernie Lochner, Dave Lloyd and Hennie Geldenhuys. Woodlands visitors Harold Dix, Rina Harper and Allan Bouwer took first session with a 2+23. William Richardson, Peter Prenger and Herbie Roux took the second session with a plus nine. In second place was the team of locals Clive Symons, Jackie and Mike Freeman on 4+25 and the winners, beating that score by two, were Steve Van Rooyen, Graham Funnell and Luke Van Rooyen.

Note that the skins, now in the pairs format, which was scheduled for Sunday, 21 February is cancelled until March due to the playing of the PNB trips.

Bowls members are reminded that their subs are now due. Pay either Jeff or Lorraine as soon as possible.

Last Friday a very lucky Ray Haynes was present when his number was drawn and he collected the snowball jackpot of R2,100. It will revert back to R500 next week.

The various meat pack winners were:

  • Mike Flack (lamb pack),
  • Richard Hendicott (Rolled beef),
  • Loffie Bester (pork roast),
  • Caryn Turk (rump steak),
  • ‘Ralph’ (chicken pack), and
  • Precious (chicken).

The lotto was not won as nobody had the winning numbers of 2-3-4.

Those players down to compete in the night bowls are to note that as B green is not yet ready, this event will now start on Wednesday, 24 February.
