IN extreme hot conditions on Saturday, 21 January, the Woodlands Bowling Club crowd came together to play the 2016 championships.

Gloria Rice and Arthur Carlyle went up against Colleen Blenner-Hassett and David Lloyd.

Colleen and Dave could not do a thing wrong as every bowl was a winner. They beat Gloria and Arthur 22-7.

It was good to see Brian Kimber and Denis Holloway back at social bowls and enjoying themselves.

On Sunday the sun was once again beating down on the breakfast pairs players. Big thanks to all the Wanderers players who so faithfully support the club. To the winners, well done for being champions in the heat.

First overall winners were Gloria Rice and Norman Moore on 4+10. Second overall winners were Terry Brown and Wonke on 4+2 and second session winners were Alan Bower and Jo-Anne Jordaan on 2+8. Sportsman prize went to Robin Grobler and Jimmy Neill. Arthur Carlyle snapped up the R40 with Gloria Rice getting the dregs of R20 on the money board. Well done Arnie Harper – after buying meat raffle tickets for 10 years, he won – at last.

Important dates to remember: On Sunday, 31 January the club will host a casual ‘fun chicken’ morning of bowls from 9am to noon. There will be chickens up for grabs. All are welcome, especially non-bowlers. If you have never played bowls before, join in and see the fun for yourself. Wear flat shoes and bowls will be provided if you don’t have any. Entrance fee is R10, which includes green fees and tea and snacks.

Prize-giving will be on Saturday, 6 February at 2pm followed by 10 ends of bowls and then a social over a plate of snacks.
