IN a quiet week at Wanderers Bowling Club, only a handful of club competitions were played.

On Wednesday afternoon, the mixed nominated pairs match between Joan Bruce and Bob Hayward versus Steve Van Rooyen and Barbara Neill resumed after it had been rained out the previous Saturday after 14 ends had been played.

At that stage, the score was 17-15 to Steve and Barbara. In the seven ends played, each side scored a further six shots in a see-saw tussle, with Steve and Barbara emerging winners at 23-21.Last Saturday, the men’s drawn trips got underway with eight teams competing. The first round saw Chris Klopper, Bill Addinall and Wonke Zandile beat Lofty Cawthorne, Robbie Carr and Pat McGlynn 21-6; Steve Van Rooyen, Errol Pienaar and Tommy Simpkins beat Eric Smit, Neville Phillips and Johan Nel 15-13; Richard Hendicott, Bob Hayward and Phil Pieterse beat Robin Grobler, Terrance McGlynn and Dave Faifer 18-7; and Kim Hawkins, Mike Freeman and Derek Stevens beat Arnie Harper, Jeff Bolt and Luke van Rooyen 24-5.

The second round resumed on Sunday morning. Steve’s side beat Chris’s side 21-12 and Kim’s team squeaked in with the last bowl of the extra end to win 19-18 against Richard’s side. Thus Steve and co will play Kim and co in the finals on a date to be yet decided.
