Top Lyn Wild pairs prize shared

TWELVE teams competed for the spoils in the Lyn Wild’s open pairs last Wednesday at Wanderers Bowling Club.

Two teams finished with exactly the same score, a four plus 16, so the spoils were split between the four players involved.

Lofty Cawthorne and Dave Faifer were the one side, and Eric Smit and Bob Hayward were the other winners. Eric Smit also won the 60/40 board with Gloria Rice taking the minor spoils. The meat raffle went to ‘Brian’ and the lotto was another carryover.

Some club competitions were partly played on Saturday, but a heavy downpour of rain rudely interrupted play in all three matches. In the men’s drawn pairs, Lofty Cawthorne and Errol Pienaar were 18-9 up after 13 ends against Terrance McGlynn and Brian Deats; Richard Hendicott (in off the bank for Ken Thomas, who was sick) and Mike Freeman were 13-11 up after 14 ends against Kim Hawkins and Derek Stevens. In the semi-finals of the mixed nominated pairs, Steve Van Rooyen and Barbara Neill were 17-15 up after 14 ends against Joan Bruce and Bob Hayward.

On Sunday, Richard Hendicott and Mike Freeman finished their match against Kim Hawkins and Derek Stevens. A brilliant two-shot Hendicott flourish secured the win by 19-18. Steve and Joan and their partners will complete their match on Wednesday afternoon.

Next weekend, 28 and 29 November, the men’s drawn trips is to commence, starting on Saturday with the second round to be played on Sunday morning. Players are to put tabs in by 1pm on Saturday, and must note that in the event of a win, they will be expected to play again on Sunday morning.

Last Friday’s snowball of R900 was not won as June Tomas was not present. The various meat pack winners were: Lamb pack – Mitty Chelin, rolled beef – Brian Craig, pork roast – Hennie Geldenhuys, rump steak – Debbie Nortje, chicken pack – Ranga, chicken – Daniel Nel.
