IT was good to see so many bowlers on the Woodlands Bowling Club greens on Saturday.

In the mixed drawn pairs, Arthur Carlyle and Linda Hewer played a very tough game against Norman Moore and Gloria Rice with Norman and Gloria emerging the winners on 10-18.

The men’s drawn pairs was played with Ralph Mostert and Dave Lloyd against Harold Dix and Alan Bower. Ralph’s team emerged the victors in a very tight game with a score of 14-13, having to play an extra game for a win. There were also a few social bowlers playing a game.

Woodlands welcomes Eric Coetzee and hopes he enjoys many happy years with the club. Seeing as there were so many members at the club on Saturday, it was decided to have a swindle and the winner was Linda Hewer.

On Sunday it was the shirts and skirts pairs competition. Overall winners were Dennis and Chantale Hearnshaw with a win of 4+32 which took Kim and Loren Hawkins off the ‘perch’. Second overall winners were Gloria Rice and Bill Hewer also on a 4+32. First session winners were Phil Pieterse and Val Macaffrey on 2+10 and the second session was won by Denis Gericke and Keith Wild on 2+21. Andy Cloete won the meat raffle and the R40 winners were Harold Dix and Linda Hewer while R20 went to Lorraine du Preez and Chris Klopper. Drawn prizes went to skips Arne Harper and Andy Cloete and leads were Ken Thomas and Marietha de Kock.

On Friday night the meat draw winners were A Holder, Cobus Janse van Vuuren and George Moore. The snowball is another carry over as J Lelong was not at the club to claim the prize. Swindle winners were Andy and Sandra Cox (twice), Dennis Tarbaton (twice), Cobus Janse van Vuuren (twice), Keith and Merle Hughes, Dave and Arlene Leuchars and Keith Jenkins.

On Saturday, 5 September, Woodlands Sports Club holds a fleamarket in the car park. To hire a table at a cost of R20, contact Glen de Wildt on 031-462-2993 or 082-440-8710. Don’t forget to join the club on a Friday night for a tasty dinner made by Colin Dawson.
