Ramblers set to explore swamps, valleys

On Sunday, 5 July hikers will explore Salimba Farm, Richmond.

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club Saturday and Sunday hiking programme for the first weekend in July.

On Saturday, 4 July Ramblers will take a hike to the Beachwood mangrove swamp near Umgeni River mouth.

Meet at the Pick ’n Pay Hypermarket Durban North parking lot (corner of the parking lot closest to the M4) at 1.45pm, to leave at 2pm. This guided tour of the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve, requires a donation of R20 per head towards the reserve. The last two hours of the hike will be along the beach. It is essential for hikers to stay together in the group along the beach, for safety reasons. This hike of about 9km is graded two, moderate with some beach walking.

On Sunday, 5 July hikers will explore Salimba Farm, Richmond. Call hike leader Jon Stevens on 082-459-1522.

Meet at Union Main Centre, Old Main Road, Pinetown at 7.30am. This hike on a game farm overlooks wonderful views of the Umkomaas River valley.

Suggested petrol sharing is R60. This 19km hike is graded three.
