More mixed fortunes for men’s league

LAST Saturday’s men’s interclub league produced mixed fortunes for Wanderers Bowling Club’s men.

The A side, playing at home against log leaders Westville Bowling Club, managed only two points to five, thanks to a win by Richard Hendicott and team.

The B and E sides also played Westville at home and away respectively, with the B side also only getting two points, and the E side lost 0-5. The C side got 3-2 against Parkhill B away, and the D side managed a 5-0 victory against Berea B at home. There is just one match left in this year’s men’s interclub league, which will take place next Saturday.

In the first round of the women’s open singles, Nicola Bauristhene beat Val McCaffrey 21-18 and Joan Bruce beat Barbara Neill 21-18. The balance of the first round matches will be played during the week or on Saturday morning, with the second round due to be played next Saturday afternoon. The women are to take note and play when they can.

In Sunday’s breakfast trips, Mike Flack, Ronnie Hook and Jeff Cronje took the sportsman’s prize with 0-22, first session winners on 2+9 was the visiting Woodlands team of Harold Dix (Dixie), Rina Harper and Alan, while second session went the way Wentworth visitors Ken Koch, Rob de Gouveia, and Brian who scored 2+14. Second overall on 4+16 was the team of Jimmy Neill, Terry Brown and Robin Grobler. Overall winners with a score of 4+ 22 were the local team of Eric Smit, Mitch Mitchley and Anne Smit. The four board winners were Dave Lloyd, Jeff and Tommy, Jeff Bolt, and Robbie Carr.

Last Friday’s snowball of R800 was not won as J Fourie, who arrived late, was not present in time for the draw.
