Mixed men’s league fortunes for Wanderers BC

Women are to note that the playing of their singles will begin on Saturday, 13 June.

LAST Saturday’s men’s interclub league produced mixed fortunes for the Wanderers Bowling Club men.

The A side playing away against Hillary managed five points to two, thanks to a great win by Steve van Rooyen and team who won comfortably at 28-14 scoring an eight in the process, thus making up for the eight they conceded last week.

Arnie’s side also managed to win by three shots and Richard’s side lost narrowly by two points after leading most of the way. The B side playing Collegians away only managed two points thanks to Eric Smit and team who won by six shots, but Dennis and Anthony both went down with a combined total loss of more than six points, thus giving away the bonus point.

The C side did well to get a full house of five points against Gillitts, with Keith Wild winning by 33-11 and Jimmy Neill winning 22-16. D siders managed to secure the bonus point for a 3-2 against Hillcrest away, thanks to a good win by Lofty Cawthorne and co (26-10), while Errol Pienaar went down fighting at 14-26. Unfortunately the D side got smacked at 0-5 against Queensburgh with both Colin Howes and Colin Nicholas going down. The men play their penultimate match next Saturday, 13 June.

The women, playing Collegians at Hillary, managed to secure the bonus point for a 3-2 win thanks to Mary’s side winning well at 30-18. Lorinne Hawkins went down 12-19 in that one. That match was the final one for the women in the Wynn Cup, who will be grateful to remain in their division.

Women are to note that the playing of their singles will begin on Saturday, 13 June. The draw has been concluded and is on the board.
