RWFL Crescent Challenge athletes record good times

A flat and fast course with near perfect conditions was what the Run Walk for Life (RWFL) Amanzimtoti athletes had come for and they recorded some good times.

A BEAUTIFUL, cool but sunny morning was what Durban had to offer all the runners and walkers taking on the Crescent Challenge 21.1km run and 10km run/walk this past Sunday.

The start was next to the Shark Tank but after Saturday’s rugby disappointments for the KZN team, most competitors had running and not rugby in mind.

A flat and fast course with near perfect conditions was what the Run Walk for Life (RWFL) Amanzimtoti athletes had come for and they recorded some good times. In the 21.1km run, Warren Gibson was first back home in 1.34. Next best was Edmund Luiz in 1.43. Nhlanhla Mthembu was not far off in 1.59 and Sure Herbst was best of the women in a great time of 2.14, with Lynette Botha hot on her heels in 2.15. In the 10km run/walk event Andelene Downs clocked a superb time of 1hr 30 mins. Andelene is a new member and has only been walking for the past six weeks. This was a fantastic performance and shows that with a little bit of determination, great things can be achieved. Next home was Annette Eagleton in a time of 1hr 34mins. With Comrades day fast approaching, many athletes will be tackling the tough 52km event in Chatsworth on Sunday, 19 April. This will be one of the last opportunities for runners to do an ultra distance race before the big day.

If you want to start walking or running and compete in your first race, call Lee or Janine on 073-271-1514 or go down to Amanzimtoti High School grounds on Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoons between 5pm and 6pm.
