Wanderers skins format changes due to Bluff tourney

On Sunday, the Acutts fours skins was scheduled to be played.

IN the Roadrunners pairs at Wanderers Bowling Club last Wednesday, Colleen Blenner-Hassett and Ronnie Jackson shared the spoils of the 60/40 board, Ken Thomas won the meat raffle and Chris Klopper chose the right combination of numbers to be the only winner of the lotto.

Keith Wild and William Richardson had a magnificent score of 2+20 to run away with the first session but couldn’t keep it going in the second to take the main prize.

Joan Bruce and Gerrie Jackson took the second session with a 2+17 – also a good score, but the most consistent team of the day, winning both sessions with good scores and finishing with 4+38 were Norman Moore and Andy Cloete who ran away with the top prize.

On Sunday, the Acutts fours skins was scheduled to be played. However, it had a serious clash with the Bluff men’s tournament, which many of the skins players were involved in. As a result only five teams arrived to play. In light of this, it was decided to put tabs in and draw partners for a morning of two-bowl pairs in two 10-end sessions. This was duly done, and by all accounts was thoroughly enjoyed by all who played with and against new and different players in a challenging format.

Oddly, only one team managed to win both sessions and was thus the overall winner with 4+7 and that was Derek Stevens and Luke Van Rooyen. One other team won one and peeled the other to finish on 3+8 and that was the runner up Bob Hayward and Chantal Hearnshaw. All other teams finished either with two or zero points. The normal skins format will resume next month on 19 April, but it has been suggested that the format be changed to this drawn pairs arrangement, so consequently a vote will be put to the floor on the day.

Organiser, Bob Hayward thanks Sharon Carr and Lorraine Du Preez for their willingness and enthusiasm in arriving early to prepare the teas and refreshments, and thanks all the players for their spirit of co-operation and willingness to yield.

Next Wednesday is the running of the Lyn Wild’s pairs in mufti. Call Ronnie Jackson on 031-464-7990 to enter or confirm your team.

Women are to note that the competition secretary would like to run the women’s drawn fours on 28 March. Diarise this date. Tabs in at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.

Last Friday’s R700 snowball was not won as Duwayne Delais was not present.

The various meat hamper winners were: Mutton pack Dave Lecheur; lamb ribs and chicken steaklets Mike Pothas; chicken pack Thomas Simpkins; sirloin steak Troy Simpkins; pork ribs Pat Ellis; chicken Dianne Swan.
