THE Brian and Paula Osman Zutek any pairs was played on Thursday, 19 February with 20 teams sweltering on the greens.

The hottest combination of the morning proved to be Kurt and Dawn Spack who won overall on 4+19.

The first and second sessions were mirrored on 2+12 and were claimed by Colin Howes and William Richardson and Bob Hayward and Gary Moffat respectively. The drawn chocolates sweetened Paula Osman lead and Andy Cloete skip. Convener Alan Ritchi first won the 50/50 board and then went one better to win the raffled chicken.

The fourth round of the Warwick Neveling two bowl twilight trips was played on Friday, 19 February with Richard Hendicott, Mike, Jackie Freeman ruling the roost followed by John Somerville and team. Bluff BC had two women and two men’s trips teams who won their sectional play-offs in the Port Natal trips last weekend to advance to the knockouts stages on Saturday, 21 February at Parkhill and Northlands Bowling Clubs. In the men’s competition, Robbie Johnston, Dave le Roux and Alac Fisher lost their first stage knockout match to Stuart Milligan by five shots and Robert Mhlongo, Jorge Santos and Noel Morel battled through the sodden condition and found themselves seven down with four ends to play and capitulated to Ian Crouch.

The rain played havoc and a number of matches were carried over to Sunday.

In the women’s competition Bridget White, Lilah Nel and Ronel Morel only played one game on Saturday, which they won. Then on Sunday they played and won against La Domaine to set up a semi final against Louise Larkin, which they lost by three shots. Dahpne Reinhardt, Glynnis Macrory and Sarie Bisset did not finish their game on Saturday against Mt Edgecombe and had to return on Sunday to complete the match, which went to an extra end which they duly won. In the last eight they came up against Minnie Theron from Umhlali and won that match to set up a semi final against Jill Hackland from Umlali which they led from the beginning to win 18-8 and face Louise Larkin in the final. After being well down in the early stages they mounted a great comeback in the gathering gloom to unfortunately go down by one shot and claim second place.

Well played girls, you really did Bluff proud and are now dubbed the super six.
