Lorinne, Jo-Anne and Anne win women’s trips title

Dawn also won R40 on the 60/40 board draw with Colleen Blenner-Hasset taking R20.

THE 2014 women’s competitions came to a conclusion at Wanderers Bowling Club on Saturday when the last final – being that of the women’s trips was played.

Lorinne Hawkins, Jo-Anne Jordaan and Anne Smit proved too good for their opponents, Gerrie Jackson, Heather Beselaar and Margaret ‘Honey’ Kitchenbrand when they won by the margin of 20-14.

Wednesday’s Lyn Wild’s pairs attracted 18 teams. Eric Smit and Bob Hayward had two good session wins to claim first prize overall with a four plus twenty seven.

Maria and Tom Cavanagh were a distant second with four plus twelve. Gloria Rice and Linda Hewer took the first session with 2+12 and Kurt and Dawn Spack won the second session with a similar score. Dawn also won R40 on the 60/40 board draw with Colleen Blenner-Hasset taking R20. A non-bowler, ‘Ian’ won the meat raffle and nobody had the right lotto numbers, which makes it a carry over.

In the ongoing men’s novice singles at Durban, Tommy Simpkins won convincingly last Saturday (21-9) and will resume next Saturday. Unfortunately Wonke Zandile went down 18-21 to a player from Le Domaine which was basically decided on the last end when Wonke was holding two shots to have the jack trailed from him to give his opponent the win.

On Friday, the various meat pack winners were:

Mutton pack and pork ribs – Barbara Neill, chicken schnitzel and patties – Eddy Bailey, chicken pack – Graham Jeffs, rump steak – Angela Peters, chicken – Richard Hendicott.

Snowball of R900 was not won as Paul Keating was not present.

On Saturday, 31 January Thumpers Motor Bike Club is hosting a battle of the bands at 2pm. The car park will be closed and members are requested to park by the bowling greens or on the fields.
