Couples rule Big Jim bowls prize stakes

The Eggcelent sportsman prize went to Steve Mitchell and Anne Bonthrone.

WENTWORTH Bowling Club wishes each and all an excellent bowling New Year, and is happy to note the following results.

In the Big Jim played on Sunday, 28 December, overall winners were Eileen and Johnny du Plessis, second place winners were Terry Micholson and Ken Koch. First session was won by Cora and Bokka van der Westhuizen and second session went to Dave le Roux and Bridget White. The first 60/40 board went to John Somerville and Tomcat Cavanagh and the second board was taken by Bokka van der Westhuizen and Dawn Spack. Robin de Gouveia won the meat raffle and Ellen Loots took the whisky. The next Big Jim will take place on 25 January.

In the Bluff Meats men’s pensioners played on Friday, 2 January, first prize was won by Terry Micholson, Tomcat Cavanagh and Eric Miller with +18, second prize went to Dudley Dorrofield, Allan Moor and Brian Smith with +12. Dennis Gerricke, Kurt Spack and Ivor Alward settled with sportsman prize. Tomcat Cavanagh and Brian Smith won themselves a beef roast for the new year and the first 60/40 board went to Maria Cavanagh and Willie Gericke and second board was taken by Kurt Spack and Frank Greyvenstein.

Results for chicken run played on Sunday, 4 January saw Johnny du Plessis and visitor from Mpumalanga, Barry Mansfield win the first prize while Wayne Smith and Ken Thomas were happy with second prize. The sportsman prize went to Steve Mitchell and Anne Bonthrone. Krystal won the meat raffle and the 60/40 board was won by Barry Mansfield and Brendan Davies.

Results for the Bluff Meats men’s pensioners played on Friday, 9 January saw first prize go to Greg McGuiness, Robin de Gouveia and Smiler Wilesmith with +4. Second prize was taken by Terry Micholson, Dave Carroll and Brian Holliss with +2. John Somerville, Buck Boettiger and Stan McKenzie took the sportsman prize. The 60/40 board was won by Greg Mc Guiness and Willie Gericke and Ina Davies won the pork raffle.

The chicken run played on Friday, 11 January saw Frank Greyvenstein and Buck Boetiger take the first prize and second prize went to John Somerville and David Carroll. The sportsman prize was won by Herbie Hofmann and Anne Bonthrone. The 60/40 board was won by Anne Bonthrone and David Carroll and John Somerville is cooking the beef.

The club wishes Margret Walters and Cora van der Westhuizen who had birthdays all the best for the years to come. It also wishes luck to the three women, Bernadette Poole, Anne Bonthrone and Zoe all the best in the Port Natal novice singles at Durban Bowling Club on Saturday, 17 January. All supporters are welcome.

Events for the next week: Wednesday, 14 January family and friends fun bowls at 3pm, all welcome. Friday, 16 January Bluff Meats men’s pensioners bowls at 9am. Sunday, 18 January chicken run at 9am.

The kitchen is open daily from Tuesdays until Sundays from 8am until 6pm. Breakfast, bar lunches and Sunday lunches are served. Call Ina Davies on 082-768-4644.
