Club’s top athletes lauded

The club is pleased to see the great development of its young athletes at grassroots level and the great times that have been achieved by these athletes.

AMANZIMTOTI Athletics Club’s tent will be at Sunday’s Yellowood Park Stainbank Cup 15km run or 10 km walk, which sees part of the route run through Stainbank Nature Reserve.

Athletes are sure to bump into some local zebra herds.

Yellowwood Park Athletics Club always has some great lucky draw prizes after the race.

The end of year athletics prize giving was well supported by club members. A big thank you to the coaching staff and club committee for their support during the year.

The following were prize winners: Junior athlete of the year: Lee-ann Blake. Senior man athlete: M Maphumulo. Senior woman athlete: Karen Sobrino. Male vet athlete of the year: X Nocondo. Most races run: C Stange. Club person of the year: D van der Merwe. Most improved male runner: R Gcaba. Most improved walker: S van der Merwe. Male walker of the year: C van Antwerp. Woman walker of the year: I Bohmer. Cross country KZN representive: N Saville, R Sayer D Oberholzer, C Stange, L Blake, Y Broodryk, R Gcaba, X Nocanda.

Athlete of the year: L Blake. Female cross-country athlete of the year: L Blake. Male cross-country athlete of the year: D Oberholzer.

The club thanks Chris and Belinda for organising the venue, trophies and certificates.

The final club run for the year will be the Illovo Sugar 15km challenge hosted by Westville AC. Athletes must contact Des as a team needs to be entered for the cart race.

Comrades entries have officially closed and Toti Comrades runners need to start logging longer runs as they prepare for their qualifying marathons early in February 2015, which are the Hillcrest or Postnet races.

Toti AC has acquired a clubhouse and is looking for any donation of building material to help finish its new running home. Contact chairman Des van der Merwe.
