Van der Westhuizens bag Big Jim bowls

The club wishes Peter Dingley a speedy recovery after his stint in hospital.

WENTWORTH Bowling Club had a very busy week and AGM at the weekend.

In the Howes Ur Fatha played on Wednesday, 26 November, overall winners were Ken Koch and Colin Howes with 4 + 26.

First session was won by Denis Gericke and Keith Wild with 2 + 8 and second session went to Moses Ncube and Margaret Walters with 2 + 6. The 1st 60/40 board went to Rosa Vincent and Maria Cavanagh and the second board was taken by Kurt Spack and John Somerville. Brian Smith won the pork raffle and Johnty Benison took the beef. There were five cooler bags that were won by Margaret Walters, Amanda Nillow, Johnty Benison, Dave Carroll and Willie Gericke.

In the family and friends fun bowls played on Wednesday, 26 November, first prize went to Dirk Venter, Johan Nel and Stan McKenzie and Frank Greyvenstein, David Carroll and Zoe took the sportsman prize. The 60/40 board was won by Eilleen du Plessis and Anne Bonthrone.

Rawsons breakfast trips was played on Thursday, 27 November. First prize went to Wayne Smith, Spider Williams and Robin De Gouveia with 4 + 40, second prize was won by Chris Pozyn, Malcolm Hewer and Shaun McAllisen with 4 + 19 and the second session went to Ken Koch, Allan Moore and Brian Smith with 2 + 14. The 1st 60/40 board was won by Robbie Carr and Bill Addinall and second board went to Russel Baker and Derick Stevens. Gwen Tait took the whisky and Phillip Pieterse won the beef. The next Rawsons breakfast trips will be on 18 December.

The Bluff Meats men’s pensioners bowls was played on Friday, 28 November. Norman Moore, Dave Carroll and Johan Nel took the first prize with + 8, and second prize went to Brian King, Buck Boetinger and Dave Matthews with + 4. The sportsman prize was won by Herbie Hofmann, Greg Mc Guiness and Kurt Spack. Andy Cloete and Kurt Spack won the first 60/40 board and Ellen Loots and Graham Bransby took the second board. The pork raffle was taken by Kurt Spack and Colin Coetzee won the beef raffle.

In the Big Jim played on Sunday, 30 November, first prize winners were sweet couple Cora and Bokka van der Westhuizen with 4 + 13 and second prize went to handsome father and son Pat and Terrance McGlynn with 4 + 12. The second session was won by Dave Carroll and Bernadette Pool. The first 60/40 board went ton Robin De Gouveia and Dave Rowe and second board was taken by lucky Robin De Gouveia and Tomcat Cavanagh. The meat and whisky raffle was won by Dudley Dorrofield. The four cooler bags went to Rosa Vincent, Willie Gericke, Johnty Benison and Marge McGuiness. The next Big Jims will be played on 28 December.

The annual general meeting was held on Saturday, 29 November and the club congratulates the new committee and wishes them all the best for the coming year. President is Terry Micholson, vice-president is John Somerville, treasurer Gwen Tait, secretary Frank Greyvenstein, women’s competition secretary Eilleen du Plessis and men’s competition secretary Frank Greyvenstein.

Upcoming events: Tuesday, 2 December at 9am, South Coast pensioners league; Wednesday, 3 December at 3pm, family and friends fun bowls followed by bring and braai afterwards; Friday, 5 December at 9am, Bluff Meats men’s pensioners bowls; Sunday, 7 December at 9am, chicken run.
