Visitors do well in Wanderers BC breakfast trips

Sunday’s breakfast trips attracted 26 teams and was played in blazing sunshine.

WANDERERS Bowling Club’s Club competitions plodded along slowly with matches played on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

On Thursday, Margie and Eric Kitchenbrand beat Joan Bruce and Bob Hayward 24-18 in the mixed nominated pairs. On Saturday Nicola Bauristhene and Tommy Simpkins won their second match in this event when they despatched Ken Koch and Lorraine Du Preez by about five shots. Steve Van Rooyen and Barbara Neill snuck in by a single shot on the last end to win 25-24 against Kim and Lorinne Hawkins. Mike and Jackie Freeman were awarded a walkover against Chris Pozyn and Lorraine Smith who never showed up.

In the men’s drawn trips, Steve Van Rooyen, Robbie Carr and Brian Deats ran away from Kim Hawkins, Archie Fisher and Shaun McAlister to win 29-9.

Sunday’s breakfast trips attracted 26 teams and was played in blazing sunshine. It was exciting to see Jean Edley who popped in to say hi to all her many fans after a long period of hospitalisation and ill health. The first session was won by Woodlands visitors Dixie, Rina Harper and John Ferguson with a 2 + 11. They played Steve Van Rooyen, Archie Fisher and Eric Redman, who bounced back in the second session to win it with a 2 + 24, and they played Nicola Bauristhene, Debbie Nortje and Dorianne Hodges who ended up with the sportsman’s prize with 0-many.

In second place overall was another Woodlands visitors team comprising Norman Moore, Colin and Claude Newman with 4 + 21, but the best result of the day came from yet another visitors team comprising Clive Du Plooy (Berea) and Ron Davids and Judy (Stella Park) with a 4 + 24. Of the two 60/40 boards drawn, Mike Flack (R40) and Eric (R20) took the first board between them, but young Wonke Zandilke scooped both prizes in the second draw to walk off with R60. Mitch Mitchley won the meat raffle and Richard Hendicott won the R50 draw prize of R250.

On Wednesday, 12 November is the roadrunners pairs and on Sunday, 16 November it is the Rawsons fours skins. Ensure you are booked into both events.

The various meat pack winners last Friday were: Mutton pack Priscilla ‘Stix’ de Wet; lamb and pork chops and chicken pack Leon ‘Porky’ Hauptfleisch; rump steak Eric and Patti Redman; pork ribs Tash Davids; chicken Jeff Bolt.

The snowball prize of R1,600 was not won as Lance Geldenhuys was not present.
