‘Beast’ to bid au revoir to Sharks
FRENCH rugby stadiums may soon be booming the French equivalent of the ‘Beaaast’ battlecry, if the popular and well-loved Sharks player Tendai Mtawarira gets his way.
Having spent eight seasons at the Shark Tank, the bulky loosehead prop has confirmed he will be looking for a new challenge in France after the 2015 Super Rugby season.
He’s said to be looking for a new challenge, but not before helping the Sharks win the Super Rugby trophy and the Springboks the World Cup in England. “My goals for 2015 is to help the Sharks do well in Super Rugby and to help the Springboks win the World Cup. That would be a dream come true,” Mtawarira told MyPlayers.
Beast moved to the Sharks after relocating from his native Zimbabwe.
France is on his radar as a preferred destination for his career as well as his young family. “I’ll get to play against some of the world’s toughest front rows in Europe, which will be a great experience,” he is quoted as saying. “I’ll get to learn much more about the game in foreign conditions. Off the field, my family and I will have the chance to travel and explore new countries.”
He’s not oblivious to the familiar chant of his name when he gets the ball. “It’s been awesome to see how many rugby fans have adopted the call, including those supporting the other team! I hear supporters call my name even when I played outside South Africa. I’ll only probably realise how special this has been when I eventually hang up my boots.”
