Wanderers BC masters do enough to qualify next year

Last Friday the snowball of R1,200 was again not won when Norris Knapp was not present when his number was drawn.

IT was a quiet week at Wanderers Bowling Club with only a few club competitions played.

The following results for the men’s nominated pairs were reported.

Robin Grobler and Jimmy Neill narrow beat Arnie Harper and Jeff Bolt 21-20, Anthony Carr and Tommy Simpkins beat Johan Nel and Awongile Zandile 32-12, Pat and Terrence McGlynn beat Russell Shepherd and Mitch Mitchley 35-19, Robbie Carr and Shaun McAlister beat Eric Kitchenbrand and Ken Thomas 27-17, and Chris Pozyn and Kim Hawkins narrowly beat Errol Pienaar and Eric Swanson 22-21.

In the masters singles tournament played at Durban Bowling Club on Saturday and Sunday, Wanderers’ two representatives – Steve Van Rooyen and Graham Funnell each won three out of seven matches, which is probably enough to ensure that they both qualify again for next year’s event. The final, played at Northlands, was between Wayne Roberts and Brad Lezar, the respective A and B section winners. Brad Lazar beat Wayne Roberts, third was Des Hean, fourth Bruce Makkink.

Last Friday the snowball of R1,200 was again not won when Norris Knapp was not present when his number was drawn.
