Doreen’s team wins Dan Draper tournament

The key game will start on Friday, 25 July to replace TGIF.

DOREEN Salmond and her team of Jane Coetzee, Jeanne Alexander and Adrienne Robbins (with Denise Bingham as reserve) had a very successful week in the women’s section of the Dan Draper bowls tournament, not only bringing the winners’ cup back home to Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC), but, both they and Barbara Beamson’s team scored a full house along the way.

Well done on your success.

Championship season is now in full swing at ABC, and spectators watched as four competitions played to an exciting final this weekend. The club is proud to announce that Ian Crouch and Jennifer Greenslade are the ABC open singles champions for 2014, after defeating Adie Fuller and Val de Kok respectively in the finals. Doreen Salmond and Leonie Mills defeated Julie Sutherland and Jacqui Fouché to become the women’s drawn pairs winners; and the women’s drawn trips winners are Robyn Hutton, Jane Coetzee and Lys McDonald after beating Delysia Mitchley, Jeanne Alexander and Tokkie de Kock. Congratulations to all these bowlers on their hard earned achievements.

In third round games of the men’s handicap singles Ian Crouch, who had been in the lead until the 15th end was forced to concede defeat to Peter Barnes; and Mike Pitchers lost to Vince Phaal. Mike Pitchers had a busy weekend, as he also played in three novice singles games, losing one to Beni Chirkoot and but winning against Ben Venter and Phil Perkins.

In other novice games Jeff van Belkum and Phil Perkins had a very close game, being peels with 20 shots each on the 25th end, when Phil managed to land the winning shot. Interestingly, Phil repeated this performance against Dave McMillan, also being peels on 20 on the 25th end, before once more landing the winning shot. Dave McMillan went on to beat Beni Chirkoot, and Ben Venter lost his game to Jeff van Belkum. In the men’s drawn four’s Don Saunders, Alf Bingham, Mike Roberts and Vish Studinski defeated Lofty van Tonder, Clive Frank, Ian McDonald and Beni Chirkoot.

In women’s novices Tokkie de Kock took an early lead against Lee Jordan, but in typical style, Lee fought back strongly, and Tokkie had to work hard for her eventual win. Also in novices Margaret van Belkum lost her game to Gaythri Ramklass. Finally, in women’s nominated pairs Delysia Mitchley and Tokkie de Kock were the winners against Jane Coetzee and Denise Bingham.

Check the notice board to see which competitions have been carded for Saturday, 19 July. All competitions must be finalised within the next few weeks, so if you can arrange to play your game early, contact either Brian Crause or Delysia Mitchley and also the green-keeper.

The key game will start on Friday, 25 July to replace TGIF. Details are now available at the club, and tickets are on sale from the bar at R10 each. Birthday wishes this week go to Andrew McDonald, Peter Callaghan, Shayne Tocher, Willem Pelser, Neil Harris and Bobby Stewart.
