Steve, Jackie make it to Oppenheimer third round

Ten Wanderers mixed pairs teams competed in the Oppenheimer which got under way on Sunday.

TWO Wanderers Bowling Club midweek league teams had good wins this past week.

Steve Van Rooyen’s side still hangs onto top spot in their division with a good shot average, and Dennis Gericke’s side is joint leader of their section, separated by just a few shots. Lofty is yet to gather a win. For those members eager to offer a little encouragement or support, one of the teams will be playing at home this coming Wednesday afternoon. Why not go along and cheer them on?

Saturday was a fairly successful day for Wanderers BC’s league sides. The A side managed a 5-2 against Parkhill at home, effectively putting them on top of their division. Lofty Cawthorne remains unbeaten. Both he and Richard won by eight shots, Arnie going down by 15.

The B and D sides both scored 5-0 to Durban away and Gillitts at home respectively. Peter Coetser and co got 28-11 and Steve won 22-16 for the B side and Peter Tayfield getting 26-15, Errol Pienaar wining 24-18 in the “D” side. The “C” team managed to garner two points against Hillcrest at home thanks to last end win by Jimmy Neill, and the “E” side squeaked the bonus point for a 3-2 finish against Stella Park at home. Gordon Chislett did well to win 32-16, Ken Koch going down 16-26.

In club competitions, the ladies had only two matches that could be played. In the nominated pairs, Nicola Bauristhene and Gwen Tait beat Brenda Andraschko and Mary Rust 24-18 and Cynthia Addinall and Anne Smit triumphed 25-13 against Margaret Kitchenbrand and Lorinne Hawkins. Many ladies comps have now been drawn with the results on the board and comp. Sec. Honey plans to get a number of further games played this coming Saturday. Please co-operate when called to duty.

Ten Wanderers mixed pairs teams competed in the Oppenheimer which got under way on Sunday. Eight fell out in the first round. Louisa and Pat Mc Glynne won one and lost the second. Steve Van Rooyen and Jackie Freeman had two good wins not needing to play the last end in each match, and are the only team to proceed to the third round next Sunday when they will be playing at Durban for those who wish to support.
