Rectified handicaps fail to help social YWP golfers

AFTER the last Yellowwood Park Golf day which resulted in some players being ‘abused’ due to their handicaps, Sunday, 6 April saw the Yellowwood Park golfers get together for a round of golf at Scottburgh Golf Course with a few having had their handicaps ‘rectified’.

Although playing under some very windy conditions, nobody seemed to be intimidated in any way and some very good scores were recorded. It was also notable that the ‘rectified’ handicaps had no effect on the final result – although attacking the pin on the par threes did prove somewhat difficult with only two of the five being attainable.

With the fourball alliance format with two scores to count and all scores on the par threes, the results were as follows:

First Johan (Sniffer Dog) van der Berg, Kevin (Breaker Club) Lacey, Clint (Moses) Rusk and Warren (Figjam) Lester with 95 points.

Second Neville (Braai Master) Montague, Garth (Coach) Hancock, Alan (Oil Baron) Smith and Reg (Waste Man) Gerber with 91 points.

Nearest the pins were second Warren (Figjam) Lester and fifth Johan (Sniffer dog) Van Der berg.

Obviously people are affected differently by certain actions, and this proved to be the case with Craig “Pool Man” Sneedon when, after playing a fair game, he fell apart after finding a stray on the course and carrying it around with him for the rest of the game, eventually adopting it and taking it home. A stray kitten that is.
