Quins 5 outbats 4ths in friendly cricket match

The match was a good close for the season.

EVEN in this upside down weather, Harlequins 4 and 5 teams went ahead and played a 25-over, unofficial game on the club’s top field this weekend.

Quins 5 went into bat first, with brothers Chris Roets and Kobus Roets opening the innings.

Number three batsman Sheldon Baxter came into bat and scored a brilliant 100 not out, which included four sixes, nine fours – a superlative, majestic innings. Ryan Baronet creditably added 28 runs and the balance of the batsmen made up the remaining runs to close Quins 5’s innings on 178 for five after 25 overs.

Quins 4 went into bat with a significantly weaker team than usual. There were perhaps four or five players with friends and Dillon Labuschagne making up the balance in favour of the fifth side. In spite of this, it was still a good attempt but they were all out for 58 runs in 17.1 overs. The following fifth team bowlers contributed: Daryn Moffit-3-1-4-3, Andre Potgieter-4-1-18-2, Sheldon Baxter-1-0-6-2, Jean Mark Roets-3-0-16-1, Stephen Roets-3-1-3-0, a very good effort from Stephen Roets who really bowled with controlled line and length.

The match was a good close for the season, with players interacting socially afterwards, discussing the merits of the past season and their strategy for the next season with all its inherent challenges.

On a less fortuities note, Quins will be losing Huey Naicker to Chatsworth Sporting, as it is more convenient for him logistically, so the players wished him well in his future endeavours as he tries out for their higher division teams.
