Gloria, Sonia are Woodlands BC’s hottest open pairs combo

Maria Berry scooped the R150 National Lotto bonus number draw so Chubbydale Greg will be hinting at a steak.

THE Woodlands Bowling Club open pairs were played on Wednesday, 2 April in blistering heat.

The hottest combination of the day was Gloria Rice and Sonia Moore, who steamed to victory.

Ronnie Jackson and Errol Pienaar along wih Colleen Blenner-Hasset and Daphne Els inflicted the worst on their opponents to win the first and second sessions respectively. The drawn chocolates went the way of Neville Horner and Dave Vincent – skips and Andy Cloete and Gwen Tait – leads. Eileen du Plessis grabbed the 40 with Linda Hewer settling for the 20 in the 60/40 board.

On the following Thursday, 14 teams contested the casual open breakfast fours in more moderate conditions. The cream of the crop were Dudley dorrofield, Eric Swanson, Dave Rowe and Brian Osman with 4+15. Terry Micholson, Norman Moore, Herbie Roux and Phil Pieterse, after much debating about who would skip the side, did enough to grab the first session with +11 while Colin Howes, Sharon de Kock, Gwen Tait and John Yunnie produced the goods to grab the second session on +14.

Ellen Loots will be roasting the meat and Linda Hewer and Andy Andrascko claimed the lion’s share of the two 60/40 boards, with the scraps going to Colin Howes and Rina Harper. The drawn chocolates will sweeten the teeth of Rina Harper – skip, Linda Hewer – third, Rosa Vincent – second and Johan Nel – lead.

The men’s league team playing in the seventh division of the Port Natal men’s league came away with yet another clean sheet, beating Verulam at home. They remain unbeaten for the season to head the log halfway through the campaign.

Only one domestic match was played on Saturday, where Rina Harper and Dapne Els proved to be too good against Colleen Blenner-Hasett and Linda Hewer, winning 18-11 in the drawn women’s pairs. There are still a few places available in the inaugural Oscar Sparks Tournament to be played on the weekend of 24 and 25 May. The format is fours with three 15 end sessions on Saturday, two 15 ends on Sunday with a minimum of one woman in each session. Entry is R500 per team. Call Dave Vincent on 084-574-9954 to enter.

Ansie Holder, Carol Lauderdale and Lesley Morrison picked the right numbers for Friday night’s meat draw while the absence of M Simpkins bumped up the snowball pool. Dennis Tarboton had first choice in the Saturday swindle with the other winners being Cobus van Vuuren twice, Ralph Mostert, Stan McNamara, George Moore, Rob de Wildt and Gordon Tarboton. Maria Berry scooped the R150 National Lotto bonus number draw so Chubbydale Greg will be hinting at a steak, egg and chips lunch at some local hostelry. There will be an Easter egg hunt at the club on Easter Monday, 21 April. All the club’s children and grandchildren as well as friends are welcome to join in the fun and parents and grandparents are asked to let Glen de Wildt know the numbers attending for catering purposes. She can be contacted on 031-462-2993 or at the club.
